Whether you are a relative beginner or you wish to develop your skills this course is suitable for you.

With small groups (maximum 8 persons) whatever your level of ability you will receive plenty of individual tuition.

Sessions will start with demonstrations exploring particular aspects of watercolour painting.  These techniques can then be put into practice working outside in the town and the surrounding landscape.

Kirkcudbright has many exceptional subjects, from its handsome 18C town houses to the fishing boats and the harbour.

The nearby beaches, coastline and surrounding hills are truly exceptional.  Kirkcudbrightshire  is renowned for its unspoilt natural beauty.

It is not surprising that Kirkcudbright has attracted many painters over the last 100 years.  There will be time to explore the town, its summer exhibitions, galleries and the Scottish National Trust’s Broughton House – home of the ‘Glasgow Boy’ E.A.Hornel.

There will be regular sessions devoted to feedback and appraisal about your progress over the week.  If wet weather prevents working outside there is a dedicated meeting-room in the hotel which is suitable for working indoors.

The holiday is designed to develop and extend your skills as a painter but just as importantly it is our aim to give you a memorable and enjoyable time during your stay in Kirkcudbright.
